Installing SUSE for the first time in a VM, with a view to making it my main OS (coming from Kubuntu).
Have already overcome the strange behaviour of the network not being brought up by default (who would need that right?). I guess if not expecting users to have network access, that might explain the apparent absence of software sources listed (except for the one on the installation disc).
I’m assuming that there is a way to add some online sources? Is there a list some place of commonly installed sources and maybe some instructions for adding them please?
I use the KDE desktop and am very impressed with the quality of the implementation of that so far, I’m hoping the rest of SUSE is just as polished, although the above design decisions kind-of beggar belief! I hope decisions like those are uncommon.
Thanks in advance for putting up with my opening negative comments!
I do apologise. It appears that the issues I described earlier were caused by the fact that I allowed VMPlayer to perform it’s suggested ‘Easy Install’ hiding the installation options from me. When I repeated the installation but opting to set the options manually, all issues above were resolved.
We have a Virtalisation Forum. Can you please ask Virtalisation questions there next time. There you will find your fellow VMplayer (and friends) users.

You are not the first one to be caught that way. I was myself once.
Network not starting could be a known bug that crept onto the release
media, I still do not know why. You should read the release notes file,
it says what to do about it.
