Where are my boot options gone in 12.2?

As long as I can remember, when I right-click on the desktop, and click on leave, I get options to logout, turn off the computer or restart. When I click on restart and hold down the mouse button, I get the option of booting to any other system installed on the computer. Since all my laptops are dual boot this has been very convenient - I don’t have to wait for it to shutdown and then restart it in another operating system. Since 12.2 was installed, this doesn’t work. Does anyone know if this is because of changes to grub, or is there something I can configure to bring back my preferred option (Just holding down the restart button to get other options)?

Just to be clear, when I shut off the system, I can restart my Windows7 system just fine. (It runs some legacy programs not available under Linux)

Thanks, Bob

“right-click on the desktop” sounds as if you use a desktop. Mind to tell us which one? so Those using other desktops can then go and help other instead of spoiling their time here

I made it quite clear I’m using a laptop. When I said right click on the
desktop, I’m talking about the desktop window, of course. And I’m using
KDE.

OpenSuse

That is what I tried to wrench from you because my crystal ball failed.

Hi!
To get back the Restart menu, do the following:

  • Open KDE’s systemsettings (may be called “Configure Desktop”)
  • in the “System Administration” group (the last one, so you may have to scroll down) select “Login Screen”
  • switch to the “Shutdown” tab
  • set the “Bootmanager” to the one you’re using (would be “Grub2” on a fresh 12.2 install)
  • press OK and enter the root password when asked
  • reboot to apply the change…

Hope that works!

Kind regards,
Wolfgang

Yes, of course. Sorry for my testy response. I think I was confusing using a desktop and using a laptop with which desktop system I was using - and in my mind, of course Suse is synomous with KDE.

Sorry, Henk.

Bob.

Sorry for my testy and petulant reply, Henk. In my mind I confused desktop with desktop computer instead of desktop operating system. And of course, OpenSuse is synonymous with KDE.

My apologies.

Yes, it sure does. Thanks. It is such a useful option, I didn’t want to give it up.

It isn’t. But you apologies are excepted ;).

Don’t say that. You will be flamed over by the rest of us, XFCE and
Gnome users, jointly >:-)
