When is 11.1 KDE4 Reloaded due?

Dear all,

Coming up to the re-installation of opensuse 11.1 which is a difficult process on my dual-booted netbook, and i would prefer to use the Reloaded version if its coming soon.

anyone know when it will be released?

afaik, 11.1 will not be reloaded at all. However there’s a respin of the LiveCD (whcih can also install) from Beineri, and offers kde 4.2.2 “KDE Four Live” CD](http://home.kde.org/~binner/kde-four-live/)

cheers.

i presume this liveCD isn’t missing any vital system components and can accept all the same security updates and repositories that standard suse 11.1 can?

yes, it can, of course. If you’re missing an application in the default LiveCD install, you can add the 11.1 repo’s and get it from there. I’m currently typing from a machine using this very same LiveCD with no problems at all. Everything works, including updates and repos

Unofficial/community “openSUSE 11.1 Reloaded” Live-CDs with KDE 4.2.2 are waiting in KDE:Medias Build Service repository for testers.

Last I heard they were NOT going to ship a “unofficial” KDE 4 live cd until 4.3 was past hard feature freeze. Which is still a few weeks a way. The general way these CD’s work is it’s the base 11.1 SUSE version, with KDE 4.3 and they try to remove any dependencies from other desktop environments (Gnome, KDE 3)Personally when I tested it last time it was nice, but fact remains that some work still needs to be done in order to make it so I don’t rely on any Gnome apps. (like firefox.)

Mailed out on opensuse-kde

Index of /repositories/KDE:/42 exists now.

Done in Index of /repositories/KDE:/Medias/images/iso

Please everyone do :-)…

Bye,
Steve

cheers, is this confirmed: that there will be a 11.1 reloaded, and it will materialise after the release of KDE 4.3 alpha allows KDE 4.2.2 to be shifted into a different repo?

regards

See #5 again. When Beineri speaks you should pay attention.

An unofficial, community developed openSUSE 11.1 based livecd reloaded with KDE 4.2.3 is under development and expected to be released “officially” in early to mid May.

Until then you can help with testing as explained by Beineri in #5.

cheers, but i’m kind of more interested in an official 11.1 reloaded iso.

getting suse onto my netbook was an exercise in frustration even for the professional linux sys-admin who installed it for me.

The unofficial one works just fine. It uses some upstream KDE 4 branding as opposed to openSUSE branding, and by default it has some accessibility services (like ally) running that the official CDs don’t, but it is a fine live CD.

Hi,
I downloaded this and burned to a cd. It takes a long time to load then when finished its at cli screen asking for a log in and password. What do I use?
Thanks,
Ron
