See my signature and smolt specs
/Geoff
AMD 9750 Phenom Quad
KHX 1066 x 4GB RAM (running at 800MHz)
Asus EAH 4870 1 GB DDR5
Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4
3 x WD3200YS
OpenSuSE 11.1 x86
Vista Ultimate
If you are going to run linux exclusively then you will save some cash by sticking to an AMD platform. If you need performance under a windows environment, go intel and pay a bit more. Thats my experience.
Geoff, whats smolt? I checked the link and was quite impressed. Its like the data you get from a Webmin page.
You’d probably get a better result simply listing your budget and purpose of the PC
Are you looking for computers that are running openSUSE or Linux and their compatibility?
Do some research for components and build your own. Much more fun and generally better quality components. That’s what I do
Gigabyte GA-p35-ds3, 2gb ram, Core 2 duo e4300 (1.8 ghz stock but overclocked to 3ghz >:)), Creative X-Fi xtreme gamer soundcard, Antec nine hundred gaming case and a geforce 8800gt graphics card. I have xp running for my games and opensuse for the rest
HP ProLiant ML330 G3 server
Dual 2.4 GHz Xeon 533MHz bus
1GB PC2100 ECC
4x 36.4GB SCSI HDs
CD-RW/DVD drive
no soundcard, onboard video
I got it for FREE!!!
My workstation would be a Mac Pro 2x QC 3GHz / 8GB / 2TB + 4TB / 2x8800 and random assorted accessories.
Price tag… enough
I use a HP 2133 netbook:
VIA 1.2 CPU
2GB DDR II Kingston RAM
Chrome 9
I would use a netbook…if you like hanging by the tv and use the netbook in same time, or watching a movie in the bed…and if you are modern and like low cost hardware, thats what you need!
Oh well, might as well join in on the fun then.
Laptop: ~920 euro
Compal HL90
and some old ASUS laptop which I wont mention since you wont be buying 4-5 year old hardware anyways.
All system running KDE 4.1 or 4.2 and openSUSE flawlessly (though laptop needed some extra work for the wireless, but since it’s pretty much the cheapest 15" laptop with a 1680*1050 resolution it’s forgiven.)
let me fix that for you…
Price tag… WAYYYYY TOOOO MUCH
you’ve been pwned by Jobs
Shush noob

Currently I only have my notebook, witch is HP Compaq 6710b with a little extra RAM installed - You can see the specs bellow (I plan to buy another 2GB of RAM some time soon… since I’m using 64bit OS, why not use more of it;-))
In the future I plan to but a Desktop (for games mainly:-D). Something like this:
Intel Core (i7 or C2D, quad core architecture)
Intel X58 motherboard (Asus, Gigabyte or EVGA… maybe DFI)

Nvidia GeForce 280 GTX GPU (something good for the masses;-))
