Most roots are about 8GiB right? My memory amounts to 8191MiB. So can I load my root partition into memory? Because then I will have an extremely fast system!
You can not use ALL of your memory for a RAM drive and it would be difficult to make 4 GB or so work for root. Your best bet is to buy a SSD hard drive. Just yesterday I saw a 16 GB unit for less that $80 US if that is what you want though I am using a 120 GB for that. Even they are coming down at less that $ 150 US and it will not be long before the 240 GB units will be in that same price range. So, if you want fast, you need to consider a SSD hard drive.
Thank You,
Honestly, this is not worth doing.
Unix/linux already does a pretty good job of keeping frequently used stuff in memory (assuming that there is enough memory).

I don’t understand the question.

to answer the question in your subject line: nothing (except maybe
insufficient knowledge of how to do it)

sure you can, maybe…if you know how, and if it will fit…
but what will you do if you put so much into RAM that there is no room
to (say for example) try to download some music, or a game, or ??

Linux is pretty good at managing memory…i doubt if you load your root
partition into memory you will do anything other than cause your system
thrash the disk by swapping…and, slow your system down.
but, nothing is stopping you from giving it a try. (i’d suggest you
backup first)
Thanks everyone - I just realised what I posted! I guess maybe with 16GiB… # Now how do I close this thread?
No need to close, if you get another comment after your last, you can make another reply or not, as you wish.
Thank You,
