I have a 1 gig card for my camera. In Suse 10.2 when I inserted it into the card slot on my usb Printer a pop up would appear asking me what I wanted to open it with. Now, on Suse 11.0, 64bit,KDE4 nothing happens. I have to to go through hoops to get the pics off the card.
Am I missing a step to get Suse to ask me what to do?
At the right bottom of the desktop, to the left of the clock, there should be an icon of a screen. If you click on it, it should show you recently plugged devices and one action is to open it with dolphin. That display should also appear for a few seconds when a new media (e.g. CD, portable memory) is inserted.
If none of this happens, check /var/log/messages when you insert the card to see if it’s detected. I can’t vouch for SD detection but it does happen with CDs, DVDs and USB memory.
Hi Ken, Thanks.
There is no screen icon there. only k-wallet, gmail notifier,HP thingy, Yast, Kopete, Klipper and beagle. And it doesn’t appear after the media is inserted.
Now, if I plug in a cardreader into a usb slot I do get the pop-up KDE Daemon.
Hmm do you not have a device notifier applet on the system tray? Mine came with the standard install. No idea how you get it. But removable storage should also appear in the KDE menu under Computer, Removable Storage panel. The device notifier applet icon is in fact a smaller version of the computer icon in the KDE menu.
No, no device notifier applet. maybe I could have deleted it (dunno). I think I have seen it before tho. going through KDE menu is to many key strokes. I’ll see if I can find it now that I have a name for it. :=)
Thanks
I have just tried this on both KDE3 and KDE4 systems and they both work for me. I plugged a 1GB SD card from my camera into my KDE 4.1 system and it showed up on the recently-plugged screen.
I then switched to KDE 3.5.9 where plugging in the SD card caused a pop-up to appear (just as ken_yap said.)
It looks like this is a configuration issue. If you have an HP printer, you might want to be sure that the hplip package has been selected.
BTW: Thank you for letting me know that you can plug your camera card into the printer and have it show up; I didn’t know that you could do that. (I have a card reader already on my system so that I’ve never had to plug a card into the printer.)
Hei Ramlight.
Glad to let you know about the printer card working.
?configuration? Where would I find a place to select the hplip? HP device manager is on and works. BTW this worked good in 10.3
