I have libmtp installed but it’s version 1.0.3. I don’t see anywhere to update to the latest 1.1. Anyone know where this is?

go to http://software.opensuse.org/ and dial in the openSUSE version you
are using, click “Search” and make your pick, carefully and thoughtfully…
if none of those are far enough advanced for your needs you mightneed to
download from source <http://libmtp.sourceforge.net/> and compile/install…

My concern is whether installing form source will cause issues. I didn’t instal libmpt, so I’m assuming something else needs it. Can I just compile the course and install and leave the rpm that’s been installed via YAST?

‘issues’ are possible no matter what you install…
and, issues are possible if nothing new is installed…
some folks compile everything locally from source…without issue.
some folks never compile from source, always use RPMs and are eternally
having issues.
what i’m trying to say is: it is not the type of package downloaded
that cause issues (instead it is downloading the wrong RPM, or wrong
source, or compiling/installing the correct package, incorrectly)…

pretty good assumption.

no, you can’t (easily) have two different libmtp packages installed
(normally, the a new one installed will overwrite the preceeding)
tell us (since you have not, yet) why do you feel you must have version
1.1? that is, what is it about version 1.0.3 that causes you to want to
have the newer??
