Hash: SHA1
rpm -qf which psql
(assuming psql is in your path)
Google for: postgresql version
When you find the first hit notice the following in there:
select version();
That probably works from within the client.
Good luck.

The RPM option will work for anything installed via RPM. The first hit
from Google for me was:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/installation-version.html
and the first hit from Google for PHP:
http://blogs.reliablepenguin.com/index.php/2005/08/26/determine_php_version
Good luck.
