what other rescue CDs have the hwinfo program?

I’m going to use the NET install CD to get a hardware inventory of a few P4 towers because it has the hwinfo program.

I’m just curious if people know what other rescue CDs out there include this useful program.

BTW, I’m not looking to make a hardware inventory on a regular basis on machines at a site. This is just a one-off task so that I can post the specs of some machines we are flogging off for next to nothing on eBay (instead of sending them to e-waste collection). Sorry, local pickup only.

Knoppix, of course

It has many such things.

Partition Magic has an alternative that provides the same information if it’s the information you are after rather than the features of the program.

Your local, or mine  ?

Come over and I’ll tell you.

Thanks djh, now that you mention it, I remember the scanning hwinfo does in Knoppix.

Hi,

I suppose you have it with SystemRescueCD too.

Do you know for sure about sysrescuecd? A search showed only a request to include it, and I don’t want to boot it to find out.

It’s been a long time since I used it, but I asked my friend (he uses it a lot) and he confirms that it is included. He’s not 100% sure, but 90%.

The message you saw was in 2007. So I presumed it has been added.

I just booted sysrescuecd 2.1 in VBox and hwinfo on the command line returns command not found. Unless it’s on some other PATH but the PATH seems quite comprehensive? There is something called hwreport which does lsusb, lspci and various things, but isn’t the same as hwinfo.
