I dont know what web browser to choose or should I stick with firefox?
Where do you see or use KDE 4? KDE 4 is EOL since a decade.
my bad meant KDE 6
You can use every browser you want. The same answer as in your other thread (regarding which is the “best” DE): use what fits your needs or preferences.
Given your need to stay with KDE SC 4.? and Qt4, provided that, for your Mozilla Firefox version (GTK version ?? – GTK+ 3 or GTK 4 ??) the appropriate GTK libraries are installed and, they’re compatible with the Qt4 needed by your version of KDE SC 4, there’s no real reason to move away from Mozilla Firefox.
On the other hand, the KDE Plasma 4 “Konqueror” web browser is possibly the only really stable alternative if, the currently available Mozilla Firefox versions are not behaving as they should do with your chosen KDE Plasma version.
If you were to move to “Opera” (Google/Alphabet Chromium based) – or “Vivaldi” (not Chromium) – the same GTK library issues as those for Mozilla Firefox may well have to be considered.
Yes, initially KDE Plasma 5 was a slightly painful whatever but, it’s currently working well.
Operating System: openSUSE Leap 15.6
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.11
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.115.0
Qt Version: 5.15.12
Kernel Version: 6.4.0-150600.23.42-default (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 8 Ă— AMD Ryzen 5 3400G with Radeon Vega Graphics
Memory: 29.3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Vega 11 Graphics
Manufacturer: ASUS
And yes, KDE Plasma 6 (Qt6) initially wasn’t as nice as the developers hoped it would be but, they seem to have spent more than a little bit of overtime getting the thing beaten into shape and, my personal feeling is that, with Leap 15.6 it’ll be OK.
- And, where I’m living on this planet, that’s actually the highest compliment that’s given to anything …
The TO already statet in comment 3 that KDE 4 was a typo (Plasma 6 is meant) and the thread title was adjusted accordingly by an admin.
@hui:
The “typing in parallel” syndrome …
What? Vivaldi is also Chromium-based, see: Vivaldi (web browser) - Wikipedia
For me, Firefox feels choppy on Plasma 6 with Wayland & NVIDIA proprietary drivers. I’ve tried various tweaks and some of them help a bit, but Chromium-based browsers run noticeably smoother. I eventually settled on Vivaldi.
On X11, however, Firefox feels smooth & fluid.
Mea culpa – I was reading too fast …
With Leap 16.0 maybe?
