I just tried Fedora last night on a replacement laptop, and the biggest thing that jumped out at me is that my Broadcom wireless card worked out-of-the-box.
Curious at what is the biggest benefit you’ve seen or feel about openSUSE 11.2?

It makes me happy:)
Definitely Ext4
2 I think stand out.
The snappy light feel & responsiveness of the system, it makes Win 7 seem sluggish. That’s due I think to :
- Desktop tuned kernel 1KHz with full pre-empt
- More willingness to write anon pages to swap partition, keep
executable pages in RAM
- ext4 v. fast
The Improvements to YaST in Qt are really nice to.
Things like updates to KDE are available for 11.0 & 11.1, so they can’t really count, and the 4.3.1-SuSE KDE needs updates for some application crashes.
Hey dragonbite,
Let me know how Fedora KDE holds up against SUSE…
EDIT: I just read your reply to my post in UF, so it’s ok no hurry let me know if/when you can. Or mabe I’ll read the reviews when they come out.

openSUSE 11.2 got a few things that appeal to me:
Those small things that just makes my life a lot easier.
Are there any improvements on
]boot time]“snappiness”?]Amarok (I’ve always have had problems getting it to play MP3s)]Yast (what benefits do you see)?
The jury is IMHO still out to answer this.
But off the top of my head I would have to say it must be KDE-4.3.1 which is far superior to KDE-4.1.3.
Next would be the 2.6.31 kernel with 1.0.21 of alsa and its significantly improved sound detection.
Purportedly 11.2 should have better wireless in the 2.6.31 kernel for Intel (which I won’t know for certain until I install 11.2 on my Dell Studio 1537 laptop, possibly over xmas).
Purportedly there are improvements in the new kernel for ATI ! rotfl! but that is difficult to believe currently.
I noted network printing and setting up my scanner was much easier in 11.2.
Something (possibly EXT4 file system) appears to have made system snappier.
There are many new libraries (I can NOT be bothered adding a zillion new libraries to my 11.1) and better compatibility with newer apps.
Boot time is pretty fast, at least on my system. Saw that someone clocked 24 seconds or so, but mine boots faster.
I got Amarok to play mp3s after installing libxine from Packman repository. Are using Gnome now however.
As I wrote in earlier post, I used minimalistic distros without any gui tools. Now I just want things to work, and YaST pretty much helps me out with configuration without any issues.
Improved sound is the biggest for me.
I had problems with it in 11.1.
I would say the biggest benefits in OpenSUSE 11.2 for me at least is the implementation of the 2.6.31 kernel and the new EXT4 file system.
I would say it is the best Linux distro I have used so far. It loads smooth compared to Ubuntu and far more stable. It boots quick and runs very fast on my machine .
Very nice.
It worked so well for me right of the box. The most beautiful & painless install I’ve ever experienced. rotfl!I was shocked that I did not need to reboot during the install,OpenSUSE 11.2 is so fast, albeit I installed it on my 2nd hard drive, an older WD EIDE drive non-sata ].
I needed accelerated video drivers, and voila’! A one-click install. KDE works perfectly, desktop effects ditto, it seems perfectly stable.Zero problems with the system clock, printing or network.
About me I am an old Linux user, but never installed any variant of SUSE before. Personally I prefer ARCH Linux, but I am becoming a SUSE fan. I will use 11.2 for a couple weeks and then try my best to write a review.
I am alarmed that I haven’t been able to find anything wrong…
Thanks,
Kevin
It seems stable, relatively fast, and very solid so far.
There are some good things for me in 11.2:
ATI sound card works
GTK integration finally here.
Plasma doesnt crash
fast startup
KDE is more responsive
In addition to all the benefits already mentioned, the much more beautiful splashscreen and smoother boot experience
