Spring - Balanced Annihilation (website down atm)

wikipedia:
Spring (formerly known as TA Spring or Total Annihilation: Spring), is a full 3D free/open source RTS game engine originally created by the Swedish Yankspankers,[2] intended to bring the gameplay experience of Total Annihilation into three dimensions. The core game engine is licensed under the GNU GPL.

Games are played using one of a number of mods. There are several free content mods which may be used free of charge. But there’s also commercial content available for the Spring Engine. Content from Total Annihilation has been modified to run on the Spring Engine although playing such content requires that one own a copy of the original Total Annihilation game.

wastes ahh fills hours and hours and hours. warning: it is very likely you’ll can’t play any other RTS games that do not provide full-scale zooming and 360° map-turning

I find Warzone 2100 my personal favorite.
