I have a home server. It has been running OpenSUSE for a year and a half. The board suddenly died so I replaced it with a new one. (new to me, used board.) It is made by Soyo, it’s a SY-KT880 Dragon2 ver2 that came out of a friends PC. He said it was really picky with everything, but was free.
In order to get the DVD to boot, I had to use a kernel option called acpi=off. What does that mean? What did I disable?
Thanks for your time,
SirShaggy
You are essentially turning off the following functions.
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Turning off the advanced configuration and power interface. Think hibernate mode for desktops.
Where a few years ago power management was previously all handled in the BIOS via the APM interface, ACPI replaces this by passing power control to individual hardware components.
Wow, thanks to you both. The Wiki link is cool too, I appreciate it.
