Does anyone have a listing for what is on the full DVD (4.7G) versus the LiveKDE install (<1.0G)? If you install using the LiveKDE package, what is missing that would be on the full DVD?
The full DVD also has Gnome, XFCE.
Beyond that, I’m not sure. When you first use Yast Software Manager after a live install, it will try to install all of the recommended software. So you will probably finish up at about the same place (but with some extra software on the live media that is not installed by default, such as “gparted”).
That makes good sense about all the other DEs. Big difference between under 1G and 4.7G, and I didn’t see a huge update once I ran the software update in Yast, so was just curious what makes up the difference. Will be fun to see how 13.2 (and btrfs) stacks up on my test machine.
My best recollection is that running online updates doesn’t bring in the other recommended software. But installing something with Yast software manager will bring in all of the recommends associated with what is installed.
You could always try it. Install something small. Then check the “Installation Summary” tab to see what else it wants to bring in. You can cancel out if you don’t want to actually install any of that.
This is exactly what happens. I installed Dropbox and 325ish updates came in lol…I thought I had done something wrong rotfl!
