What is akonadi and can I disable this?

My SUSE Leap 15.2 was hanging bad today. I just noticed it’s EOL so I should look into upgrading to 15.3.
Anyway, I noticed all these processes from this software and it seemed like it was causing my Linux to hang today.

Can I disable this software? It’s using mysql and a bunch of other stuff. It seems like it’s collecting metadata and other ‘stuff’.

Appreciate any insight.

Basically I’m not sure if this is something I need and it’s a personal data / security concern. Thanks for any info.

This was probably a one-time thing – “akonadi” was indexing your files for future search. Maybe just let it run until it has finished. It is part of the KDE desktop. You can perhaps disable search in the desktop settings. But some functionality (such as “kmail” may require it).

Thanks for your reply nrickert. I’m going to take another look at this after I try to get upgraded from 15.2 to 15.3. I thought it was hanging my system up but it might of been something else. I didn’t have much running and when I ran top this was eating a bunch or resources. I don’t use kmail so I might not need this and it seems like it might be a potential concern.
