What interesting Linux names or open source names are you near?

I have debated about doing this for quite some time. I usually don’t like to give out my location, yet this will do just that. Yet, at the same time, it makes for some interesting discussion, so here goes.

I live in Glendale, Az (Arizona). Land of the extreme heat. Near me (less than a quarter of a mile) is GCC (Glendale Community College). There is another GCC that’s a bit further up the way (Glendale Christian Church). If you go a bit further there is a GPL (Glendale Public Library). I honestly get a kick out of that. I smile quietly at the dual, unintentional meaning.

So…what about you?

GNOME 3.6.2
openSUSE Release 12.3 (Dartmouth) 64-bit
Kernel Linux 3.7.10-1.16-desktop

I call my wife Susie, but some call her Suse.

I zypper up my trousers every day - when I remember!

I have a fire extinguisher of brand name UNIX (for Universal de Extintores).

I saw one many years ago when I had holidays in Spain. I took a picture of it and displayed it on my work.

Nice to know that the brand still exists.

Yes. I have a small car unit that my father bought… who knows, perhaps
30 years ago. I had to send his old car to the waste dump, and then put
all the things into a bag. Yesterday I cleaned out the dust from the
extinguisher and noticed the name :-o

This prompted me to find a unit for my “computer room”, and saw that the
brand is still active. But their web page is terrible, all in flash,
info difficult to find, no sales floor, no map…

And no mention of the real unix! :-p

I too noticed the flash stuff after link was posted. I wonder as to how
how will search engines index their websites content Without any text
content

Indeed. Daft!

But it is listed in the yellowpages (in Spanish, of course).

Does YaSM (yet another supermarket) count?

I doubt you get full points for it, but it is a nice try

We have GCC too: Groningen City Club (some kind of local Rotary)

The people who sold us their car had this on their driveway:

It’s a VW Amarok

I started the day with a special coffee, brought from Berlin by friends, package states it contains Kaffeine

I personaly accept the other two, but this one is a question of who is named after who.

:D, hadn’t thought about that

I also started with coffee, I’ll end the day with a glas of Wine.
