What happens with Nvidia and OS11.3? Problem with TwinView!

I see that many got problem with configuring Nvidia TwinView using Nvidia-settigs after OS11.3
I have a Dell Latitude D830 with Nvidia Quadro 140M.
I have a docking-station and a Dell 21" external monitor.
Both internal screen and external monitor support 1440x1050.

With OS11.2 i had no problem with TwinView, but now its impossible. I choose the external monitor as primary screen, but if i click Apply it only activate a black desktop on the external monitor. The internal screen remain as primary screen.
It also seems that Nvidia-Settings can’t save the settings(Or load saved settings). When i click Save Settings it suggest to save it in Home-directory. No filename is set, so i have to choose a filename.
But after reboot it goes back to default settings where the external monitor is deactivated.

Is this a Nvidia-problem or is this a OS11.3 problem? Single screen works but settings are not stored as i described earlier.

Did you read this thread? Specifically, the thread by maple_hack might be helpful.

BTW, what desktop are you using?

I use KDE 4.4.4

RS

Now i solved the problem. It seems that in OS11.3 the file xorg.conf has disappeared.
For me who have Nvidia the nvidia-settings can’t save to /etc/X11/xorg.conf because its not there.
So i go back to init 3 and executed “nvidia-xconfig” and a new xorg.conf was created.
Now i boot up back as normal and run “nvidia-settings” and now it saves the new settings i choose. Now i got TwinView back running again

This is my hardware:
nVidia Corporation Quadro NVS 140M
KDE 4.4.4
2D-driver: nvidia
3D-driver: NVIDIA 256.35

So i go back to init 3 and executed “nvidia-xconfig” and a new xorg.conf was created.
Now i boot up back as normal and run “nvidia-settings” and now it saves the new settings i choose. Now i got TwinView back running again

Thats what the post by maple_hack explained in the linked-thread I gave you: nvidia-xconfig first (to create a working xorg.conf), then nvidia-settings (to configure).

Anyway, good result.
