What happens behind one-click?

I like how easy one-click makes installing applications and all, but I wonder if there is a way to look “behind the curtain” and know what it is doing before clicking it.

I’m just thinking of if I use the one-click in the software section (is that part of OBS?) , what all is going to happen, or can I just grab the latest .rpm and when it goes to get installed it determines and downloads dependencies automatically?

I guess I want to make sure that these aren’t adding 101 repositories that have to be refreshed for updates and clutter things up!

Just take a look inside the .ymp with a text editor

Once you run it and Yast starts up, it will show you what it’s adding. Usually you opt out of most of them because it will usually add oss and non-oss. This is how some users end up with duplicate after duplicate.
I don’t use OneClick and probably never will.

Hello dragonbite,

Here’s an article about the One-Click install system: openSUSE News » Sneak Peeks at openSUSE 10.3: 1-Click Install
Some links don’t work because it’s pointing to the new wiki.
Here are the correct links:

Good luck!

“duplicate after duplicate”? You mean multiple instances of a repository (or library file) being used? That sounds like a recipie for disaster!

I’m going to have to pay much more attention when I use them.

@Edward_lii: Thanks for the links!

“duplicate after duplicate”?
I mean repo
It will add em even if they are already there. How dumb is that!

Keeping the repositories is optional. Just untick that option when prompted.

What is the bugzilla number for this? Because I assume that you will have reported this already, no?

If there is no bugzilla, then you are to be blamed for the problem >:-)

Very funny
I can’t decide where the OneClick Installers fit in openSUSE distribution.

It is part of Yast.

I still remember when the developer came to the mail list with the idea, for help with ideas and
testing. First we had to add “something” extra to yast, and before a year, FF knew about it, and it
was part of the default yast install. A very good idea, actually. Just click and install some thing
from some repo.

I think it was the first “add on” to yast from somebody from “outside”.

If it doesn’t work as it should, it has to be reported and repaired. It won’t do to tell people to
“don’t use one click” instead of having it repaired. Or learning that it can not be repaired and
then we dump it.

Whatever.
