What happened to the Ctrl F11 desktop rotating cube with mouse?

It’s been several years since I last saw it, back when I used KDE.

But yesterday I tried giving it a try again on a test PC just out of curiosity.
I barely remembered what the key combination was -actually I had to search in google-, and discovered it no longer works.
I already enabled the cube desktop effect, and it works when switching desktops. But Ctrl + F11 (if it was the correct combination) no longer does something.

Any reason of why it was removed? Any way to get it back, if just for “entertainment”?
Thanks.

@F_style:

It’s no longer a standard Keyboard Shortcut but, you can set it in the Global Shortcuts for KWin if you wish.

  • Because it seems that, there’s a move away from the “Cube”, an alternative is <Ctrl-F8> – display all desktops as a Raster – it’s a standard KWin Global Shortcut.

Further Plasma Keyboard Shortcuts are listed here: <https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/applications/fundamentals/kbd.html>.

With the cube effect enabled, I searched in Global Shortcuts > KWin, and didn’t find any setting related to the cube.

Also, what with “move away from cube”? What does it mean?

That’s strange. It should be listed as ‘Desktop Cube’ with Ctrl+F11 configured by default. It should also show via Desktop Behaviour > Desktop Effects > Desktop Cube, there you can click on the middle icon and see the configured shortcut as well.

Settings - configure desktop - Desktop Behavior - Desktop Effects - find the widget select the button that looks like controls to set the hot key and other settings

Ah!! My mistake – I missed that, somewhere in the past with another Plasma version, this setting for KWin was deleted … :shame:

  • The Global Shortcuts setting should be searchable – type “cube” in the search bar near the top of the window – it should be listed as “Desktop Cube
    ”. - You also need to, in “Workspace
    ” → “Desktop behaviour” → “Desktop Effects” → “Window Management”, enable “Desktop Cube”.

I had the feeling that, the default animation when switching between Desktops is now “Slide”: “Desktop Effects” → “Virtual Desktop Switching Animation”.
