What good is a soapbox if you can't talk politics....

The new America…

Politics are occasionally discussed as they pertain to Linux/openSUSE. If you want to discuss, say, abortion, go to a news site or a political blog.

As Chief Sealth said, if you want to talk politics, there are plenty of
options. Religion and Politics are two topics not permitted here because
it tends to get very personal very fast - and we want, even in soapbox,
to keep things friendly.

i think his/her point was that things have changed recently in a way
s/he does not like…

evidently s/he (erroneously) thinks rules of this International
Community are set only by folks in “The new American”, but i’m
confused about which country is being ridiculed…

it is, after all, a BIG place (those Americas North, Central and
South) with lots of countries (Argentina, Brazil, Panama, Mexico,
Canada etc etc etc)

maybe s/he refers to the one (of six countries or territories) of
North America which is now a democratic republic of various former
colonies, territorial possessions of other countries (like Spain,
France and Russia), one former country (Tejas) and several
pre-existing nation-states which were overrun and conquered (like the
Piscataway, Cherokee, Pequot and other indigenous native nations)
often with terroristic tactics…

I’ll 4th what chief_stealth says.

I think the correct forum on OpenSuse is the Community:Chit-Chat or Community:Soapbox.

Except that there isn’t a “correct” forum for posts about politics or
religion here. Those topics are not allowed for the reasons I’ve
outlined already in this thread.

I did see that one, but it’s about as useful/informative/
contentious/controversial as if I’d said

“The new Portugal”

i disagree since no single country or geopolitical entity is mentioned
in the original, but it is in yours…

it would be as useful/informative/contentious/controversial if s/he
had written

“The new Eurasia”

wanna FIGHT about it??

I think a lot of people would consider America to be a “geopolitical
entity” That they would be assuming America=USA is wrong, but …

I thought that’s what blogs were for, one-sided ranting and trolling?
Besides you’ve see what happens when people mention words like KDE3 or Ubuntu around here, just imagine what would happen if we started talking about politics. lol!

That’s because ubuntu supporters and possibly those for kde3 increasingly have to rely on myth or dogma.

Hahaa why bother having a soapbox thread if you want us all to be friendly and play nice? I dont necessarily agree with people abusing each other, but there is nothing wrong with a heated argument so long as everyone is being rational. Just delete the ‘soapbox’ thread and put in a ‘junk box’ thread to compensate, so everyone can still talk about non-related issues? Obviously a solution right there.

Hmmmm, I’m pretty sure the rules are being made in Salt Lake City … the worst part of the new America … actually the worst part of the United States period … new or old
