Hi, I wonder what does backup utitly do exactly. Does it just save the installed packages (programs, drivers,…) or can I backup my documents via this backup as well? Anyone knows which things exactly get backuped using this utility?

I’d say both, configurable by the user.
Theres is a sneak-peak in the wiki:
http://en.opensuse.org/YaST_System_Backup
BTW, I still prefer, for a complete system backup a disk/partition cloning
utility (such clonezilla) and for file backup, just “tar” command.
