What does Google Apps moving to google drive mean to us?

Will we still be able to access our documents?

did you intend to ask that in a google forum?

As long as google does not provide the long ago promised linux client
for GDrive you will not find plans in any distro to provide an interface
to a nonexisting client.

Thanks. I run SuSE linux on all my machines, but I’m not a big linux nerd. I haven’t been following this.

There is a long thread about that at the google product forums (I think
you need a google account to see it)

I am myself not that happy that we have no support for it.
Recently I have seen info about a third party attempt to implement a
linux client by reverse engineering, but I forgot the name of that
project so I cannot look up its status.

All your documents are belong to Google.

I’m just starting to get that idea.

I really love google apps. I don’t need a network, or a home mail server, or worry about different versions of documents.

But it was a real wake up call when I got the message from google that seemed to say I’d need google drive to access my documents, which doesn’t run on Linux.

I guess that’s not really true, since I should still be able to access them on-line.

Google is responsible for developing the APIs necessary for this to
happen. openSUSE leverages APIs that are made available and what’s
implemented upstream - so if you’re using GNOME 3, for instance, then the
integration with Google Drive would be something that, if it was put into
the GNOME3 project, the openSUSE project would pick up when those changes
came downstream.

Or they might be backported by someone if (for example) GNOME 3.6 has it
but 3.4 doesn’t.
