Every now and then some app starts thrashing the hard drive and slowing the whole system to a grinding halt? What’s going on ? Does SUSE have any background management app’s? And how do I turn them off?
I wonder if this is something to do with swapping as this laptop only has 512mb?
Well that isn’t much RAM for sure, but check out ‘beagle’. There are
quite a few posts on it among the forums but generally it could easily
be doing this.
Good luck.

Just to add to ab`s post.
Have a look in “Configure Desktop” ( personal settings ) and in the advanced tab there should be “Nepomuk” disable this as well as this does an index of the selected dirs and can cause slowdowns depending on you hardware.
