What are the odds of Leap 16 officially supporting i3 window manager?

Hello,

Does anyone know what the likelihood of Leap 16 supporting i3 window manager is?

Just switched to i3 on my desktop which runs Tumbleweed and loving it, my laptop runs Leap 15.6 and I can see there is no official package for it, so I’m just curious if Leap 16 will support it or will likely support it?

Otherwise might need to put Tumbleweed on my laptop…!

Thanks.

@Samoon Hi Only GNOME and Plasma are the default graphical environments…

However it is available after install via zypper;

Hmmm. If available via zypper after install, why not available via installer?

This can be confusing for users (which is evident from the post).

Is this because Agama is still very lacking offering install options?

@aggie that may be the case, not really sure. That would probably be better asked at an engineering meeting which you could subscribe to and attend…

Possibly the installer only offers the two most used desktops; it is true that AGAMA still lacks the pattern selections at install though and that is adding to the problem.
After install, Myrlin offers 6 alternative patterns for desktops beyond Gnome and KDE, and then “i3” and possibly others as individual packages.

You can install “i3” package during installation process from online repos.

Not currently with the AGAMA installer that is the only installer for Leap 16 (unless I missed something).
