Weird Mate behavior

I may have posted this sometime in the past but I don’t remember he he oops.

When I log in to Mate, for some reason it tries to open multiple, apparently infinite instances of Caja. The panel quickly fills with buttons but the browser window never appears. Very little else works either. The desktop is almost completely unresponsive.

I am using 13.1, installed this repo in Yast and chose the Mate pattern that appeared that did a full install with all the extras.

Weird, indeed. This issue has normaly get fixed. Let me investigate.

There is some talk discussing multiple instances, open and closed bugs.

I’m running Mate 1.8 on openSUSE 13.1, caja appears to be 1.8.1, as does mate-session-manager (according to rpm) and have not experienced this issue. I have the repository, http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/MATE:/Current/openSUSE_13.1/. If you do not have this repository, the easiest way to add it is to go to software.opensuse.org and search for caja and do a one click install and click the checkbox to keep it. I see there is an update to 1.8.2.

If you need immediate relief, this was mentioned, “In the meantime this problem can easily worked around by editing the /usr/share/applications/caja.desktop file, changing the X-MATE-AutoRestart value from true to false.”
