WebUI for ktorrent/XBMC

I’m a very recent addition to the openSUSE community, more than somewhat of a beginner. openSUSE is running on my HTPC and because of this, I like to be able to control the programs I use most (ktorrent and XBMC) without having to grab my keyboard/mouse and just using my laptop, which I’m always on anyway.

When running these programs in ubuntu (the OS last running on this computer), I was able to very easily set up a WebUI through the settings in both those programs; navigating to a specified port to control each. I’ve set the settings equally in openSUSE, but my incoming connection is being blocked somewhere.

Can anyone point me in the direction of how to enable these features/configure the security settings so that my HTPC can accept incoming connections such as these?

Thanks in advance and sorry in advance if there’s an obvious thread with instructions out there that I missed.

So what exactly did You change ?
You enabled the WebUIs in both applications ?
Did You forward the ports You specified for the WebUI usage through your firewall ?

The easiest way to do it is Yast → security and users → firewall
Once You get there go to allowed services → advanced…
It is there where You can specify exactly the ports You want to forward.

Greg

Excellent! Thanks very much. Problem solved.

No problem. Glad I could help.

Hmm, now its not working anymore. I attempted to install iplist/ipblock, couldn’t get them working, and uninstalled them. Now I can’t access the WebUI. Ideas?

Nevermind. Different question: How do I set static ip up on openSUSE?

You can do that by creating a profile with manual IP address in networkmanager or You can change the method to ifup in Yast and set it up there.
