webpin

Is webpin working for 11.3?

If I look for some package in opensuse 11.3 the answer is always “No results found
The same searches for 11.2 produce useful results.

Yes, webpin works. But it is possible that the webpin index hasn’t been entirely generated.

try again, it seems to be working fine for me, now…

if not, you might try: http://software.opensuse.org/search

Thanks for the reply.

Maybe that is what happens.

If I search for kdebase4 in opensuse11.2 I get a lot of answers. In 11.3 “No results found
If I search for kdenlive in 11.2 I get answers in opensuse repos and in packman. Searching in 11.3 the answer is just in packman repo.

It seems that it doesn’t work for the official opensuse repos. At least in this part of the world.

Thanks to you too.

It’s still the same.

I can try software.opensuse.org: Search Results but it doesn’t search in packman repos, I think.
Anyway with both search systems I can manage.

why don’t you try using YaST?
you can, that way, specify exactly which repos you access/search…

i recommend you enable only oss, non-oss, update and packman…

OK. I know that. It was just that webpin was useful to find a specific package that is not in the enabled repos. Of course, it’s not a big issue: there are many other ways to find things.
Thanks anyway.

I’ve learned this already. I have enabled also kde4.5 and kde-extra, acording to a post by caf4926. The experience confirm that it’s a good advice; I think it’s worthwhile insisting on that for newbies like me.
Thanks for this too.

Hello wrbbt,

I never use webpin, I always use SoftwareSearch.
When you search for kdebase4 for openSUSE 11.3 you find a lot of packages from different repositories.

Hopes this info is useful.

Good luck!

Thanks, Edward_Iii

Really, I was not looking for help. That’s the reason I posted in this forum (Chit-Chat) and not in Applications or other under the title “Get help here”.

I just wanted to know if other people were experiencing the same as me.

Anyway, I see that most people use SoftwareSearch and not webpin. This is already interesting to know.

I do not know if this is related to the original question, but I think I
read somewhere that in 11.2 webpin searched also the home projects at the
OBS and due to the problems which can come from that in 11.3 the search in
the home projects is disabled in webpin, so that 11.3 simply searches less
repositories by default.
(I do not use it so I cannot be sure).

You can also contact the webpin maintainer and ask him directly (or catch him online on IRC, nickname: yaloki)

Also, did you know that webpin is also available as a CLI client ? No web browser needed anymore!

Probably that’s the reason. Thanks.

I didn’t. Great to know! Thanks.
This is why I love this forums: you just make a comment and end up learning something useful.
