webcam

Can someone please recommend a Brand/Model of webcam that is compatible with Kopete?

I can not get my older model USB Logitech device to be recognized. It is old (and cheap), so I am assuming that it is not compatible with Linux. I don’t the exact model, but I think it is the STX which is not listed on Logitechs website as being supported in Linux.

Any of the webcams listed on the HCL page should work out of the box:
HCL/Web Cameras - openSUSE
Linux supports UVC compliant webcams out of the box, and most modern Webcams are UVC compliant.

I personally use this one:
Amazon.com: Dynex 1.3mp Web Cam: Electronics

Works like a charm in Kopete.

If you tell us the model number of your webcam, we may be able to help you get it working.

M/N: V-UBK45
P/N: 861223-0000
PID: LN62785

If you can help me getting working that would be great. If not, I can use it on my kids computer that is running XP. I (rather my wife) would like to have one that works on the Linux machine too.
Thanks!

You need to read:
HCL/Web Cameras - openSUSE
from which you will see that the information you provided is nice, but not directly relevant.

Instead, please provide the output of typing in a terminal/konsole:
lsusbThat will tell us the vendor ID/product ID which is needed when checking the compatibility lists.

Once you sort your webcam driver (assume it is supported, and assuming you can sort the driver) then you could tryout some of the ideas in this webcam fun thread, as a means of testing the web cam’s functionality.

Please also advise what version of openSUSE you are using?
