can you help me install a webcam in the buildin laptop
following its ID is:
Bus 004 Device 003: ID 0402:5602 ALi Corp.Video Camera Controller

:’(
I use openSUSE 11.1

  1. Choosing the correct kmp-package for your installation - openSUSE Forums

  2. Webpin - gspca-kmp openSUSE 11.1

/lib/modules/2.6.27.21-0.1-default/updates/m5602/gspca_m5602.ko
alias:          usb:v**0402**p**5602**d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
  1. HCL/Web Cameras - openSUSE

Driver is still experimental, use at your own risk.

  1. noval-altair@linux-d6pb:~> uname -r
    2.6.27.7-9-pae

    noval-altair@linux-d6pb:~> cat /etc/SuSE-release
    openSUSE 11.1 (i586)
    VERSION = 11.1

  2. I dont understend it

  3. I am test it with kopete, and the webcam cannot running

noval-altair@linux-d6pb:~> LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l /v4l1compat.so kopete
kopete(15325)/libkopete Kopete::PluginManager::loadPluginInternal: Unable to find a plugin named ’ “” '!

:sarcastic:

Then read it again.

There is a bug in the kopete shipped with openSUSE 11.1(Which has been fixed over time). Assuming you still have the shipped version, this bug prevents webcam from running in kopete, and in any other application after opening it in kopete. Try it in some other application first. If it works in other apps(aMSN,Skype,luvcview) then the problem is with kopete and you need to update it.

owh
so…
i cannot use it in kopete build in…?

Well not unless you update kopete. I have v0.70.2 and it works. But I would recommend checking if the problem is with kopete or your webcam. Try your webcam in another program first and then in kopete. If it doesn’t work in either then it’s not from kopete.
