Hi
I can view my webcam in the configuration setting in kopete, but I’m not able to view my cam on skype, it keeps on showing a gray screen! Have anyone else experience this? IF anyone know anything about this please help me. I tried almost go through on the web about this.
Check this thread:
Webcam configuration
Or you might want to run this command from terminal:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
for 32bit os
or
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
for 64bit os
and then check if your camera works
Its possible the suggestion Argoson provided may work (which is only for a webcam that uses a gspca driver ) . But we don’t know what webcam you have as you did not advise us.
Note there are different drivers for different webcams and without knowing more about your webcam, one is forced to wildly speculate for a solution.
With your webcam plugged in type:
lsusb
and post here the ENTIRE webcam line associated with command.
Note also there is an openSUSE wiki page on how to install Skype on openSUSE : http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Skype
… and to learn a bit more about webcams on openSUSE there is this wiki (which needs improvement adding entries for more different types of webcams): http://en.opensuse.org/HCL:Web_cameras
