Webcam recommendation

Hi:

I’m trying to decide which webcam to use with OpenSuse. I intend to use it for web conferencing. I have an old Genius cam, don’t know the exact model right now, it’s usb, but apparently it’s not working with my OpenSuse 11.2

Thanks.

I have a very old IBM cam (Xirlink) that works but not well. That is not suse’s fault, the camera is not very good. I’m awaiting delivery of a Vx-3000. If you haven’t bought anything by then, I’ll give it a review for you. Also have a Logitech C200, unopened, which is going back if the vx3000 ever shows up.

i have a Logitec quickcam 4000 that doesn’t have the reg driver for linux, i was able to find one that i would have to compile but didn’t cause i didn’t want it to change the kernel i compiled for use of my geforce 7600 in RC2. i got it to work after installing xawtv, and when i ran amsn, ran the config wizard in amsn, was able to video chat w/ a friend. it used v4l i believe. this is just my own personal experience, hope it helps.

Active WebCam broadcasts MPEG-4 live video up to 30 fps from any web camera.

I say get a logitech, I have had success with them.

I can recommend the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000. It works like a charm for me on openSUSE 11.1 with fswebcam and uvcdynctrl. It’s not the cheapest you can get but image quality is quite good (I am still looking for something better).

Can’t get this to work. I made the mistake of returning the logitech before seeing if the vx-3000 would work.>:( The webcam HCL says it works, but I can’t get it to.

If anyone has gotten this to work, please post.

Zjone, this is a Linux forum. Please, why are you posting about a commercial MS-Windows application in a Linux forum?
