Hello. I have a Creative Live Cam Video IM Pro and SuSE 11.0. I cannot get the web cam to work. I have installed various drivers to no avail. LSUSB shows the following:
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0f30:010b Jess Technology co., Ltd
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 03f0:5d11 Hewlett_Packard Photosmart C5200
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 041e:4055 Creative Technology, Ltd Live! Cam Video IM Pro
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
If I go into Kopete or any other video/tv program, it picks up my AverMedia card. I have updated all my drivers including the kernel, still nothing seems to work.
I took a look through the normal places for web cam drivers, and I do not see support for your web cam listed.
I also looked at the Linux in-compatibility page, and did NOT obtain confirmation that your camera does NOT work with Linux. Linux incompatible Webcams
… in essence, from what I can see from that thread, this camera is not yet supported, although it “may be”, in the future dependant on progress on progress on the m560x driver project … https://sourceforge.net/projects/m560x-driver/
… although the above URL was mentioned on a Ubuntu thread, so take what one reads there with some caution, as I find the technical accuracy of many Ubuntu threads is questionable.
I always research for compatibility BEFORE I purchase my hardware, but every now and then my wife (a BIG winXP fan) throws a spanner in the works and she purchases hardware with out consulting with me (to 1st ensure linux compatibility).
If this had happened to me, I would find an MS-Windows friend who has a web cam that is known to work well with Linux, and try to convince them to trade webcams.
I was running a dual boot system up until about a week ago when I decided to drop “whine-doze”. So far the only compatibility issue I have is with my webcam, which I don’t use that much anyway, so it really isn’t that big of a deal. If would be nice if Creative made linux drivers but that may be asking for too much. Thanks for the replies.
you can try that uvc driver, but if what you posted in your 1st post is correct, then IMHO it won’t work. You posted your webcam is a 041e:4055. That uvc notes it’s Cam Video IM Pro is a 041e:4063, which is NOT the same.

You can try it, but I would bet against it working.
