Web server could not be access from outside

Hi all,

I’ve installed the LAMP and checked the website is working fine with localhost or with the static ip address when browse on the local server.

But others couldn’t web browse the website from outside – on Firefox, user got page load error/network timeout; on IE, user got error couldn’t find server or dns error.

Is there some kind of default security setting with SUSE 11 or Apache blocking the access?

Please help quick & thanks in advance!

Ping the ip address from outside has no problem. :\

Hi
Have you opened the port in the firewall?

No.

Thought setting the Apache will open port 80 by default. Guess not.:X

Please let me know how to.

Thanks a lot, Malcolm, you are the suse man!

Hi
Via YaST-> Security and Users-> Firewall and select the ‘Allowed
Services’ now make sure it’s the external zone selcted, then in
‘Service to Allow’ dropdown select apache or webserver ( I don’t have
it installed on this machine) and hit the add button. Else you can
manually add via the advanced button.

Now if you have a router facing the internet, you will need to open
port 80 and then forward to the servers internal ip address.
