Am running openSuse 12.1 32-bit with KDE. Every time I try to add the Weather forecast widget to my desktop, I get the following error and my desktop restarts.
So, what if instead, you right click on the System Tray, select System Tray Settings, and put a check by Weather Forcast? This is working for me. You can also make a bug report for the Plasma Widget. https://bugzilla.novell.com/index.cgi
So, don’t know the problem, but perhaps you could tell us more about your PC, about the exact openSUSE version and Desktop installed and if this was a clean install and if you reused your /home partition or started afresh.
It’s openSUSE 12.1 32-bit with KDE (as mentioned in the first post). Running it on a Dell XPS M1330. It was a total clean install.
I installed the same version of openSUSE on this laptop previously (a fortnight ago) and had the same problem. I was testing some other distros in the meantime, hence my latest re-install.
So I am using the 64 bit version and it is working. I must suggest you file a bug report as perhaps the Weather Stuff does not work in the 32 bit version of KDE.

I’m using yawp, available through 1-click install.
It’s similar to the old kweather and far better, IMO, than the plasmoids
that come as standard,
