Hi!
After i tried OS11 i had to return back to 10.3 because of problems.
10.3 works very stable on this laptop and even with ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 (RV350).
OpenSUSE own driver for ATI works best and even with 3D.
But my problem is the sound. Its very weak and if i tune mixer to give more sound, the sound get horrible bad.
This laptop have a very standard intel 801 AC’97-controller. It should be no problem with the sound. Before a start to play with OS11 there was no problems with the sound, so i must have a better driver that time.
Typically the problem in a case like this is your mixer setting.
Ensure you have both PCM and Master volume up. Also, pay attention to the application you are using for playing the sound,as sometimes the application has its own volume control, in which case you need to check the applications volume controls and the mixer’s volume controls.
Sometimes laptops have a hardware control for sound volume management. If your laptop has such a device, don’t forget to use it to adjust your volume.
In case this problem is more than just due to your mixer, how about (with your laptop connected to the internet) copying and pasting the following audio diagnostic script into an xterm/konsole, and then run it. When it prompts for a password, enter your root password. Type NO for every question you do not understand, and please try to fill in the question on the number of audio input/output jacks as best as you can:
wget http://home.cfl.rr.com/infofiles/tsalsa && su -c 'bash ./tsalsa'
This script is designed to provide information on your hardware and software, so I can produce a better recommendation. When the script finishes it will give you a URL (that links to information collected on your audio configuration). Please post that URL here.
Also, can you also provide the output of: rpm -qa | grep alsa
rpm -qa | grep pulse
rpm -q libasound2
uname -a
cat /etc/modprobe.d/sound
