The difference is that Wayland works.
At least according to an earlier thread (if I remember correctly), “firefox” doesn’t work with Full Wayland. But perhaps that has been fixed by now. You can look in “/usr/share/wayland-sessions” to see the difference. Basically, with Full Wayland, some additional environment settings are used. I guess those tell clients to follow some restrictions.
If I were to hazard an “out of left field” guess based only on my rough understanding and observation of changes between xorg and wayland,
It might be whether wayland is implemented “also as an x server.”
One of the remarkable features of wayland is that we’re seeing some changes in LEAP (documented but often without providing reasons in depth) where some graphics are implemented and accessed through sockets instead of an x server.
Problem is of course, if an app is expecting to run on an x server, that might cause a problem.
