Recently, I’ve been experiencing high CPU usage when playing videos. It turns out there was an issue with hardware acceleration with integrated graphics. I have dual channel RAM. On my journalctl, it says something like
Crash Annotation GraphicsCriticalError: |[0][GFX1-]: glxtest: ManageChildProcess failed
(t=0.453402) [GFX1-]: glxtest: ManageChildProcess failed
Crash Annotation GraphicsCriticalError: |[0][GFX1-]: glxtest: ManageChildProcess failed
(t=0.453402) |[1][GFX1-]: No GPUs detected via PCI
(t=0.453402) [GFX1-]: No GPUs detected via PCI
Admittedly, no multiple monitors here - only have the one 38 inch Dell curved monitor - waaaay more than enough screen. Don’t (or will ever?) use Wayland.
I am using dual monitors, different size and it works perfectly well under X11.
I have noticed after a fresh install dual monitor is broken and I need to disable one of the monitors and then install nvidia driver for my video card before it all starts to work well.
Update: So I decided to run LibreWolf/Firefox under XWayland and it works. I believe this has to do with LibreWolf/Firefox itself where hardware acceleration is broken on Wayland as it prints out GLXTest errors everywhere.
Really wanted to run it under Wayland since it’s better on the battery.
