Watching Youtube Videos

Hi
Somehow I have problems watching youtube video, sometimes it works great but some videos won´t play at all, sometimes it makes firefox very very slow and the plugin container eats 60% of cpu resources. I don´t understand so much of plugins and codecs which need to be installed but I use VLC player and have no problem watching videos from my camcorder in hd quality.
So what could be the problem with firefox which make it refuse playing yt videos???
:sarcastic:

Enlighten us as to what version of openSUSE, what desktop, what specs you have…

Try disabling hardware acceleration in Flash and restart browser
Adobe Community: How do I disable or enable hardware acceleration?

If that doesn’t solve the issue then, try disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox

i think u need re-install Flash Player latest version

I think the following 3 apps play YouTube without flash:

  • Minitube
  • sMplayer
  • uMplayer

Also, you can use the html version of YouTube by going to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=(http://youtube.com/html5)

So we can’t tell you how to setup your Multimedia for sure unless we know your openSUSE version but for:

  1. For openSUSE 12.3 use: openSUSE 12.3 Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

  2. For openSUSE 13.1 use: openSUSE 13.1 Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

Thank You,

another option would be to switch to using the youtube html5 player instead of flash.
It works very well now.

edit: oops, sorry. I see someone else has already mentioned that.

**Thanks for all the help! **
So now all Multimedia plugins function perfectly on my Suse13.1!
:good:

Good to hear of your success. Did you follow the multimedia blog or what did the trick?

Thank You,

Two things were very helpful for me:

  1. Using the HTML5 player instead of Flash.
  2. and of course, the Multimedia blog is a great help for installing all the necessary codecs!
    Muchas gracias!

Thanks for the update as it will be useful to anyone that reads this.

Thank You,
