Want to use a external screen for laptop

Hi.
I just installet 11,1 but im having trouble making my screen work.

I have a syncmaster 2253bw I want to use as my monitor, instead of of the smal laptop screen. The gfx card is gforce 6600 go, or someting like that. When I boot up, the image show nice on both screens. But when openSUSE starts to load the desktop, the image on the big screen gets distorted, looses all resolution and is just a few screwed up colours.

How do I make it so I can use this screen with my laptop? I am new to linux and openSUSE.

It sounds like its maybe using your laptop’s default timings and the other monitor doesn’t match the resolution or some other setting, try setting the problem display to a different resolution to see if it resolves it? I have that problem when I use my 42" 1080p LCD TV via HDMI, for whatever reason, it doesn’t like being sent 1440x900, it goes black. I set it to 1920x1080 and its fine.
