Hi, where I am it’s now the 18th December so I’ve got openSUSE 11.1 and have installed KDE4 Desktop. My question is how to get different wallpapers/backgrounds for the various multiple desktops (AKA the “pager” ?). I can change the background by doing R-click on a desktop → Desktop Settings → Wallpaper → Picture → and select a different background. But that changes all desktops. How do I make it different for different desktops as was available in KDE3?
KDE 4.1.3 is pretty good, but absenсe of this
feature prevents me from switching:
when all desktops have one wallpaper
I just can’t tell one from another.
Though, maybe it’s just a matter of habit.
I used to have separate wall papers for each desktop (in kde3) but I stopped, when I realized my old PCs could not really afford the extra memory (and time to re-display the desktop) this took. By going back to 1 wall paper for all 4 desktops I had a very slight, but noticeable, speed improvement (on my old PCs).
Correct me if I’m not wrong but is it not possible to have one per workspace though? Ok not a desktop but if you had only one desktop per workspace then it would imitate it.
Though without the switching ability of the plasma widget, perhaps a little pointless, though if you used shortcuts to switch it would work.
… and this is sort of relevant, as you could download the openSUSE-11.2 milestone2 live CD for KDE4.3 and test it yourself, … check to see if it has the features you like, and if not, write bug reports!!
WE NEED TESTERS !!
Also, if you have a spare PC or are happy with your grub boot manager knowledge (and have a couple spare partitions) then you could install 11.2 milestone2 on that, and test from there (as opposed to testing from the LiveCD).
