Wacom Intuos CTH480-S not working in OpenSuse 13.1

Hi, i recently bought an Wacom Intuos CTH480-S Tablet but i can’t get it to work. I updated my Kernel to Version 3.13 without problems, because it was said that that kernel version would support it out of the box. It does not.

I don’t even know where to start! :’(

It’s not just the kernel that needs to support it, but also the xf86
packages need to be installed, too.

The CTH480-S, as I recall, is a newer tablet (I have an Intuos4 myself
that generally works well on 13.1 with the stock kernel), so it may be
that the driver isn’t fully baked yet.

You might check with the wacom-linux mailing list. Looking at recent
posts there, I saw someone with Ubuntu and that same tablet who was
having a problem. The drivers aren’t officially from Wacom, but as I
recall, they’re developed by someone who works there, so support is
generally good.

I have a CTH-480. Today I upgraded my system to 13.1 (for the second time, long story) to find that the default openSUSE kernel was not provisioned for the tablet.
So I have downloaded the 3.14.4 which is the current stable latest kernel from kernel.org, compiled it from scratch with default settings and was pleasantly surprised to find that this version recognizes the tablet without further compilation of drivers, etc.
So finally - works for me!

I’m glad to hear you got it to work.

Only thing now is that when I first plug it in after a fresh start of the machine, Gnome sends me a message that it does not know about the tablet, like it has never seen it before. The tablet works fine, and after an initial plug-in if the tablet comes and goes (as it must on my unpowered USB hub when I need to use other devices on that hub) then it recognizes the tablet and does not send a message. So there is evidently a temporary storage of the identity somewhere which is not made permanent. It’s not a big thing, just cosmetic; I have not yet found a way of registering the device with Gnome.

With my Intuos4, I know hotplug is supported - I had something weird
happen with the OLEDs yesterday or the day before, and I ended up just
unplugging it.

I wonder if yours would do the same?

Hey there  I myself have a CTL-480, It wasn’t being recognized, the version of xf86-input-wacom shipped on 13.1 was older than the one with support for the new intuos tablets , so I downloaded and built the driver, it still didn’t work though; went and downloaded/built the newest input-wacom too, and then it worked smoothly (: Give that a try, it should work!
