VPN issue, connects fine until the password is entered at the login, then closes connection :(

Hi all, I apologize that this may be a little n00b.

We have a server running Suse, and we are trying to VPN in using a Windows7 machine.

We can connect via VPN to the login screen, can enter the username and password, but the moment you hit enter after the login screen, the connection tanks.

Anyone seen this before or have any ideas?

Thanks, and if you need any more info about anything, please post back so I can answer with more detail.

Jenny

I would have a look here I think: openSUSE 12.2: Chapter 14. Configuring VPN Server,

AND

openSUSE 12.2: Chapter 25. Using NetworkManager,

Just to show a few I have found.

Thank You,

Jenny,

I’d opine unfortunately that the links Jim posted have only a very low probability helping to solve your problem.

It might be useful to know
What is your position, are you only a regular User in your organization or are you part of the Techical Support staff?
Do you have any kind of control and visibility how the Server is setup or are you working only with the Client (Win7) machine?

Then, you need to describe in some detail what kind of VPN technology used (eg PPTP, L2TP, OpenVPN, SSL, etc)
If you have inspected your System Log for a detailed error description
How did you setup your client-side VPN configuration, eg with a script file someone gave you, if you attempted on your own what did you use for guidance

That is definitely not enough identification. Is this openSUSE? And when yes, what version of it?

Sorry everyone who has responded so far, looks like we got it figured out.

My mistake, the issue is with VNC, not VPN and it is SuSE, version 12. AppArmor was stopping the connection. We just changed a couple settings and were good to go.

One more mistake of you.

There isn’t such a thing as SuSE version 12.

There is SUSE Linux (SLES/SLED), which has now as it’s newest version 11 SP2. And these forums are not about it.

There is openSUSE (and that is what these forums are about) and it has version 12.1 and 12.2. No version 12.

Maybe you should try to find out what you realy have. It will make understanding for everybody (including you) a lot better.
