Vote for: Add usb_modeswitch and splix packages to live CD`s

My point of view is that CDs(not DVDs) should contain all packages required to install the system, to setup internet connection (then users can download all they need) and to support as maximum hardware as possible.
Therefore, I think that packages
1)usb_modeswitch (usb_modeswitch-data and tcl as dependencies)= about 5,5Mb
to provide a possibility to connect to the internet for people with UMTS/3G wireless WAN devices.
2)splix= 3,4Mb to provide better support for SPL printers

should be added to live CD`s.

vasilbelarus,

This could be extended to the installation DVD?

Well, I can download the openSUSE Linux on a computer and need to install on another computer where there is no wired Internet.

I am not very good at English, so forgive me if I incorrectly understand what did you mean.

are already included on DVD`s

I own a usb modem and it would be nice to have usb_modeswitch included in the live CD; you got my vote

i agree .
Even when kinternet was dropped i felt shocked;)

kinternet was replaced by qinternet wormulove; same program but with a difference in the name

Is it?
It was the era of 11.1(/2) and also I think the replacement was Network Manager, may be because I used NM after that …
anyway after some tries I started using NM and found it more rich in features

Yes, not sure about the second one, but 3G support should be on the CD.
Voted up. Thanks for raising the issue!

I was really happy after installing openSUSE12.1 RC1 and finding usb_modeswitch on live-CD(GNOME)
Splix wasn`t presented yet? so wote up!!!
