volume very feeble

AFAIK that scary block diagram was the presentation for pulse audio. I agree some is presumption but from all I’ve read it sounds like exactly what P/A is trying/doing.

I have to admit like you I’ve avoided both, but from what I’ve seen and read it has been difficult to remove P/A from some distro’s(Suse being one). Unlike the choice with KDE4.

I just think what was valued with Suse is being determined by a few when I started few people would jump on to development repos(It was valued as stable and not bleeding edge the reason why I used Suse and recommended it, I use Arch for bleeding edge). I remember when one of the KDE3’s got released slightly early and a few jumped on knowing the consequences. It seems now we have a lot of people recommending factory/unsupported repos as fixes which I think you and I agree is wrong(certainly without contemplating the implications).

Then if KDE4.2 is better than 4.1 then it should be released officially. I like you have kept away from KDE4 and may have another look around KDE4.3/4 to me KDE4 was promoted as feature ready by a few, yet we’ve only just got K3B.

I think if you wish to understand it more it may be beneficial to use a vanilla type distro and implement it your self. i.e arch … PulseAudio - ArchWiki I have to admit I have no intention of doing it. I have had no problem with sound with just alsa and it seems it will bring little to me. Then with the layer KDE has bought in this will use any under layer if my understanding is correct so it can continue using alsa for me. I just feel people should of been allowed the choice.

They’re distro’s for bleeding edge, as discussed it can still be developed without implementing it. As you’re aware I do think the Suse community with some exceptions does tend to take and give little back. But I also think it is a complex subject but I’m left wondering why the community isn’t doing more. I’ve highlighted a few pages myself, just in the wiki. Then I tried to bounce community week in the poll/survey forum. The sad thing is more users are more interested in whether I’m a boy or girl than community week.

Then lets talk bleeding edge ext4 why is it I had to resort once again to Arch wiki for a decent page(A far smaller community)?

I also agree I admire the aspirations of P/A and I hope it does turn good but for me its not needed and I saw less sound related problems without it on the forums.

It’s time for you to switch to Unix. I assure you you won’t have to explain to anybody that the filesystem is case sensitive.
Take it easy! You’re doing great.
