Vodafone K4505-z

Hi Everyone,

I am running openSUSE 11.4 on the following spec: openSUSE 11.4 x64 | KDE 4.6 | Intel DG41RQ | Intel Dual Core 2.5 | nVIDIA 8400GS | 2GB RAM. I have a Vodafone K4505-z 3G/HSDPA modem. I was wondering if I could get it to work on my openSUSE 11.4 64-bit machine.

Do any of you have the same modem working on openSUSE? Perhaps there is a “3G modem How To” that can assist me in installing it on openSUSE?

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

With a bit of luck, you may find that this device is supported by network manager. Are you using the NM plasmoid (plasmoid-networkmanagement package)?

If it’s not supported ‘out of the box’, a quick online search shows that the usb_modeswitch utility may take care of it. So, if necessary. install that package first. See the links below concering its configuration and use.

If you get stuck, plug the modem device in and type

dmesg |tail

Post the output here.

Hi Everyone,

It seems as if the K4505-z modem has some problems especially on 64-bit OSes. There is a few complaints on the web regarding this specific modem. Even with USB_Modeswitch my 64-bit system does not detect the device. :frowning: Problems range from overheating to dropping connections intermittently.

Now im just using it on my Windose system.

Well, that’s one solution I guess. However, I recommend contributing via testing and reporting your results as suggested here:

You can submit a bug report (or add to an existing one). That is the only way support for your hardware will happen.
