Hello I’m not very experenced with Linux yet, so can somebody give me SIMPLE step by step intructions to get a vnc server working

I have Opensuse 11.2

Look under Yast -> Network Services -> Remote Administration. That should do the basics for you.

This might be worth a read too: TightVNC (VNC Xvnc) on openSUSE as Client or Server (Remote Desktop Connections)

I read that artical but that seems to be on the x11 tight vnc with the gui. I was looker for a service or something that could run in the background and start when the computer boots.

FreeNX is the best.

AFAI can interpret your question it does just what you want.

It runs over ssh with keys, so it’s also secure.
I made some instruction notes a while back:

I often run a session locally. When I leave I can resume the session
from somewhere else, from some other computer.

It’s just great

Actually I did some reading and got it working. I LOVE IT!!! THANK YOU.

Will NX start when the computer boots or do i have to set that somewhere?
also can you change the port?

Yes, you can. It’s in /etc/nxserver/node.conf
Look for the line:
SSHD_PORT=22

And change to what you need.

FreeNX uses ssh so you also need to change ssh to the same port.

So at first it worked but after I rebooted the computer when i try to connect it says connection refused. i check and the nxserver is running, and i even tried restarting nxserver but that didnt help.
I have the firewalls configured correctly because it worked before the reboot
