Hi, I am having problems with exporting my Suse kde desktop to other clients. The other clients can connect but see just a black screen. Searching on the net reveals that others have had exactly the same problem as I am having but I cant find any solutions offered that actually resolve this.
My scenario is this.
Installed tightvnc and xorg-x11-Xvnc packages. onto Suse11.4 running KDE4
If I then run vncserver :1 I can connect to my machine fine but get presented with the TWM desktop - yuk.
So I’ve edited the /user/.vnc/xstartup file so it now say /usr/bin/startkde
Restart the vncserver and connect again from remote client and I just get a black screen.
I have read that if using KDE4 that it is not possible to export the screen of a logged in user, so I tried logging out and connecting again but exactly the same result - an empty black screen
I have also tried starting the vnc server as ‘another’ user, but still no good.
I seem to recall that in KDE3 it was possible to export the kde desktop - surely it cant be the case that it is not possible any more in KDE4??
looking in the vnc display log the pertinent bit seems to be:-

So - does anyone know how to actually export the kde desktop using VNC??
Alternatively any suggestions for a free RDP protocol server would be good as my client machines are windows and Mac so all have remote desktop viewers built in. Suse seems to ship with an RDP viewer but no server
