VMware workstation on SuSE 11.0 - won't config

Installing VMware workstation 6.0.2 under host SuSE 11.0:-

  1. The rpm installs without problem.
  2. vmware-config.pl throws up an error…

Your kernel was built with “gcc” version “4.3.1”, while you are trying to use
“/usr/bin/gcc” version “4.3”. This configuration is not recommended and VMware
Workstation may crash if you’ll continue. Please try to use exactly same
compiler as one used for building your kernel. Do you want to go with compiler
“/usr/bin/gcc” version “4.3” anyway? [no]

It appears that I have gcc 4.3 installed and gcc43 4.3.1

Has anyone else had this problem? The config fails if I enter yes to the above. How can I ensure the correct gcc is used?

I tried with the Beta 11.0 but still unable to do this with the final release of 11.0.

Thanks
Richard

You need to install the latest version, 6.04.93057. It will give you an error, but it still works

You are correct - the newer version 6.0.4 works just fine.
Thanks
Richard

I’ve faced the same issue, but the error isn’t for nothing! I just don’t trust it until vmware comes with a newer version.

You can also go to the vmware website and sign up for the VMWare Workstation 6.5 beta which is much more up to date. The process of signing up is a bit convoluted and will require a VMWare account.
