I’ve installed VMWare Workstation 6.5.1 on 11.1 and every time I run the GUI portion nothing comes up. I know VMWare is installed because when I got to shell and type ‘vmware’ I get the usual command stuff.
Seems like there is a bug. If you start it from a console you will see errors. GTK and segmentation in my case
The only way i could get wmware was to use the sever version after following this tutorial

There’s a bit of a learning curve when moving to the server version and a fewer configuration options. Or maybe i just haven’t sussed it yat

Hi, this has come up in another thread here and on the vmware forums as well.This is the fix for now:
As root do this
mv /usr/lib/vmware/modules/binary /usr/lib/vmware/modules/binary_old
Then, still as root type
vmware
into the terminal and it will sort itself out.
