Yep.
Those are only the open source tools, kernel drivers and libraries. Not
the vmware itself, that can not be hosted on opensuse.org

Well, here’s my trip on installing Vmware Player. I down loaded the “bundle” went into terminal using zypper typed, zypper in gcc make etc. I ran into my first problem, it came back and and said it couldn’t accomplish, something about nvidia drivers, I had made no request about drivers, any way, it gave an explination on what I could, “don’t recall what”, I followed it any way when it finished it prompted me to select yes/no I inadvertantly hit the “enter key” and it trundled on and finished indicating that gcc make etc. were installed. I then did chmod, “went well”, then I ran
kdesu ./VMware-Player-*.bundle this went well also. I then started “Player” from the menu and it started right up. However, when I tried to
load a “vmx or ovf” everything goes away. I have since discovered that my nvidia drivers no longer in use and when I select the repository it
won’t do it. I am totally mystified, not sure what I did? I have since taken my system off and reinstalled, when I select to add repositories
nvidia is in the list. I select it along with others I want added, however, nvidia will not work, won’t down load anything. Note: I had used
Player quite awhile ago and had go to system services and set vmware service to execute at runlevel 5 only, however, in 13.1 I can’t disable it
runlevel 0 to 4. In older sys. such as 12.1 “I think” I could select expert mode and everything was easy, in 13.1 can’t find expert mode.
an update of my situation: I reloaded Vmware Player, it installed ok. I created a virtual machine and installed a copy of ubuntu, every thing went perfect. It runs very well.
I then went to import and tried to import one of my “ova” files, no go, it just goes away? go figure!
Confirmed that the latest NVidia driver solves the problem.
I’ve had the same issue as the original posters regarding Player failing as soon as it tries to load the VM.
Just upgraded to 331.38 and my VMs are running again.
I do still get the GTK-Warning messages about removable media, but they come after I close the VM while VMPlayer is shutting down. Clearly not relevant to the original problem. They were a great red herring, though, weren’t they? rotfl!
